The first time I saw carbon fiber was on an RC car. This had to have been real early 90's since it was before you could get an RC10L with a factory CF chassis. The days when you had to replace pretty much everything in a top level kit with aftermarket just to compete.

I say carbon fiber all the things.

Drilling, cutting, doing any sort of machining operation with CFRP is a goddamn bitch of time, especially if they are structural components

Haha, I can’t even convince myself not to experiment with things. That’s why I ended up buying a 3D printer to make robot parts. Btw, that’s also a fun option for making RC parts

I like McMaster for lots of things, CF is not one of them.

If you don’t mind blems and are willing to cut...in the notes when you check out you can ask for thicker pieces. Ask nicely and they will put them in there. My last batch I ordered 2lbs of thick and got a few big plates ranging from 1/16 to 3/16. If you want I can post some pics

It takes a little practice, but it’s not too hard. That said, I’ve still bought pre-made strips and rods on occasion and made things out of them.

I’ve bought tons of stuff from McMaster at work, but for this I’m betting you can find similar sheet and bar for less elsewhere. I haven’t compared CF, but their plastic and metal sheet and bar prices tend to be a lot higher than the local iron yard and the the local plastic supply co.
